HELP! I'm trying to plant a hibiscus plant?

I just bought these beautiful hibiscus plants and I went to dig a hole for them and the dirt is rock hard. I could hardly put a dent in the ground. Will the plants grow there if I do finally get a hole put there or will the roots just have no where to go after time? I don't want to kill my plants.
