I am worried about one relative's ankles.I know swollen feet arent a good sign?

but have no idea about how swollen they should be to call for medical attention.I am hesitant about broaching the topic with him,and only prefer to do so if anything is indeed wrong.Could anyone please tell me what exactly is meant by swollen ankles,I mean like just how much?
