Will paying off my credit card debt with a new card hurt my chances to get a mortgage?
Im trying to get a mortgage for a home right now. I have spoken to a lender and he was very frank that i needed to pay off my debt to about 33% of my limit to increase my score for a loan. He said he was confident that if I could do this that i would be looking pretty good at getting a mortgage. The thing is, that everything needs to move very fast before this recent repo goes into collections (it was a personal loan for my motorcycle as collateral). Once that happens I will not be able to get a mortgage. I have about $3600 in credit card debt and my student loan is at about 3,600 of 5,000 which is also a factor. My card utilization right now is at about 55%. I was wondering if I could get another card to pay off my other cards because I cant come up with that much money on the spot. Would this hurt me or help me? I just need to get my card utilization to 33% or lower.
