Fall of the Berlin Wall?

No the end came on November 9th 1989 when a politician read out on live tv that refugee would be allowed to exit East Germany via crossing points (rather than via Czechoslovakia as they had been doing) It should have been valid from November 10th but the politician was not properly briefed and said it was effective from now. Thousands of East Berlins promptly went to the checkpoints. The guards were so overwhelmed that they eventually opened the checkpoints and let the people out. Nov 9th is considered the date the wall fell. There were concerts to celebrate after this date but none the precipitated it.
