When the Democratic party was the Racist Party in the 40's, the media was considered "Kept"?

Now that the republican party is the preferred party of racist, the same media is considered liberal. The media was mostly cowardice then and they are pushovers for the most part now, The only thing that has changed is the Party affiliation of a certain segment of the population. Is this Connected?
